Theme:  Early Sarasota County History-Women, African Americans, Celery, Turpentine, and Cattle

This is the third program in a series of four that will focus on local South County history from 1865 to 1965.  All programs are FREE and OPEN to the public.

Presenters:  Chris King, local historian, and Brad Jenkins, retired Chair of the History and Political Science Dept., Guilford Technical College Kyleelise Holmes will reenact testimony of Frances Butts, an early Woodmere resident.

Directions:  The Sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice is located at 1971 Pinebrook Road, Venice on the corner of Edmondson Road.  Use the driveway into the church campus from Edmondson Road, west of Pinebrook Road.  From the south on I75, exit at Exit 193, turn right on Jacaranda Blvd. and travel to the flashing stoplight at Border Road.  Turn left and follow Border Road that turns into Edmondson through another flashing stop sign and then a stoplight at Pinebrook Road.  From the north on I75, exit at Exit 195, turn right and immediately move into the left lane.  Take the left at the first light (Pinebrook Road) and travel south about a mile.  Turn right at the driveway that leads into Island Montessori School and then turn left into the UUCOV church parking lot.  Honore Road may also be followed south as it turns into Pinebrook Road.
